OK, I’ve Got the 3 L’s—Now What? Volunteer!
OK, I’ve Got the 3 L’s—Now What? Volunteer!
So you have the 3L’s concept down, now what do you do? One option is to volunteer for a cause that fits your interest. Luckily there are many avenues and resources available to those retired. As you meet people in your community, ask what type of volunteer activities they are involved in and what they do. Keep an eye and ear out for opportunities that pique your interest. Our book, Make Retirement…Work!, has resources in the back which may be helpful.
Here are some I thought worthwhile:
Create the Good- run by AARP it lists a cadre of volunteer opportunities searchable by location and interest (createthegood.aarp.org)
Volunteer Match-large organization with hundreds of opportunities both onsite and virtual. (https://www.volunteermatch.org)
State Volunteer Agencies-most states have agencies that list opportunities in their state. In my state Delaware, ( volunteer.delaware.gov ), in New Jersey ( New Jersey Department of State - Volunteer and National Service Volunteer Centers ), in Pennsylvania ( https://www.pa211.org/get-help/community-resources/volunteer-opportunities )
You just need to start! Find a cause that is interesting to you and sign up. Give it some time to see where you fit in and if it is right for you. If not, find another opportunity. Create the Good facebook page lists many stories of successful volunteers, which may also give you ideas.
Good luck in your search!!
