Rick Hearin and Andy Gogates have a total of more than 80 years of experience in helping people—from brand new college graduates to seasoned senior executives—make successful transitions to new and exciting opportunities. As we began our own journey to a “post career” path we realized there was little if any guidance or signposts to guide us. As ”fellow travelers” on this adventure into a purposeful, productive, and enjoyable retirement we have researched the factors and frameworks that make for a smooth transition into your retirement years, and have identified a whole host of resources that will help you chart your path.

Andy Gogates
Andy Gogates is an employment acquisition/recruitment professional who retired as the Manager of Corporate Relations for Rutgers Business School, Newark, NJ in 2019. Previously he was the founder of The Gogates Group, Inc., a retained Executive Search Firm whose clients were in the alternative investment community and completed assignments for hedge funds, investment banks, family offices and private investment funds. He began his career on Wall Street as a recruiter for US Trust, Goldman Sachs and Bankers Trust.
He holds an MPA degree from Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration (2015) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Rick hearin
Rick Hearin is a veteran career education professional who retired in 2021 as the Executive Director of University Career Services at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. Prior to Rutgers, he was the Director of the University Career Center at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. He also held similar positions at Miami University, Oxford, OH and Ohio Northern University.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and he completed graduate work in college student personnel at Bowling Green State University. He was a Captain in the US Army serving in both domestic and international assignments.
