Blue Zones
I just finished watching Dan Beuttner’s documentary on Netflix, Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. In Chapter 4 of our book Make Retirement…Work!, we talk about Beuttner’s research and findings in Okinawa, Japan and the concept of IKIGAI. He has now expanded it to 4 additional Blue Zones, Sardinia, Italy; Ikaaria, Greece; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California. All share similar elements to live longer. One, is that they ate healthy with a plant based diet; Second, they moved at least 20 minutes a day, not in a gym but in their daily life; Third, they had a purpose, whether it be family, volunteering or joining social groups.
I would highly recommend watching National Geographic’s Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. It is now available on Netflix.
